Napier’s love for Art Deco has led it to establish the Art Deco Trust, which holds tours and walks around town as well as the spectacular Art Deco Weekend held every February. Thousands of visitors from all over the world visit Napier during this time to see hundreds of 1920s and 1930s cars, outdoor concerts and dinner dance extravaganzas.
Of course, you can have fun in Napier during the rest of the year too. Avisit to the attractions of Marine Parade, overlooks the Pacific Ocean and out towards Cape Kidnappers, is a must. Marine Parade is the home to the world’s largest mainland gannet colony. You can use up a full day visiting Ocean Spa hot pools and swimming complex, the Hawkes Bay Museum, the National Aquarium of New Zealand, or geting splashed by the dolphins and seals at Marineland.
Also be sure to visit Bluff Hill, a local landmark. Bluff Hill is home to many Napier residents and provides views of the town beaches of Perfume Point and Westshore, and past the newly upgraded airport and out towards Whirinaki. Bluff Hill also overlooks the Port of Napier, one of New Zealand’s busiest ports, transporting timber, local fruit and meat products to worldwide destinations.
There are many great shopping opportunities in Napier as well. There are antique shops, art galleries, and studios of potters, wood turners and craftsman.
